    52 Mbps · 40 h 36 min per 1 TB

Bitrates are Samsung's published figures for APV 422 HQ, APV 422 LQ and HEVC HDR. Storage is decimal, as phones and drives are sold. On the phone, the calculator keeps the 10% of storage free that Samsung needs to keep recording; on an SSD it keeps 5% free.

FAQ

APV questions

How much APV fits on a Galaxy S26 Ultra?
At 4K and 30 fps, APV 422 HQ records 796 Mbps, about 6 GB a minute, so a 1 TB SSD holds about 2 h 39 min. LQ uses about half the space.
APV or HEVC for a game?
For a game you will upload or share, HEVC is the practical choice: 4K at 60 fps is 52 Mbps, about 0.4 GB a minute. APV 422 HQ at the same setting is 1,592 Mbps, about 11.9 GB a minute, which pays off when you plan to color grade or edit heavily.
What is the difference between APV 422 HQ and LQ?
Both store every frame whole, so they edit smoothly. LQ uses about half the bitrate of HQ (812 against 1,592 Mbps at 4K and 60 fps), so its files are about half the size.
Can I record APV straight to an SSD?
Yes. Samsung asks for a USB 3.0 cable or faster (10 Gbit/s recommended) and an exFAT drive that is not encrypted, writing at least 200 MB/s for 4K at 60 fps and below, or 400 MB/s for 4K at 120 fps and 8K. Recording can stop if the drive is too slow.
How accurate is this calculator?
It uses the bitrates Samsung publishes for each APV and HEVC setting and decimal storage, as drives are sold. On the phone it keeps free the 10% of storage Samsung needs to keep recording; on an SSD it keeps 5% free for the file system.
